We used the LunaLite in the dental emergency clinic of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. During appointments, I carried the device into their operatories, set it up for them, and asked them to use it to line up their periapical radiographs.

Students often have problems with mechanical radiography positioning devices. Students may make mistakes setting up the 3-piece device. It can be difficult to place the device in the patient's mouth. The metal holder must fit inside the patient's mouth and line up outside. Often, the operator needs to fight with the metal bracket to make it fit correctly within and without the patient's mouth.

The LunaLite is a simple appearing, digital device that fits over the positioning cylinder. Students quickly figure out how to use it to line-up their shots. Operators may use it with mechanical positioners, but with familiarity, the metal bracket of the mechanical positioning device becomes unnecessary.

I have over 20 years of experience teaching students to line up radiographs. Many providers/students have the ability to eyeball their shots. Some do not. After using the LunaLite, I believe that this device may help me teach students that ability.
